Prudential Thailand has joined forces with Prudence Foundation, the charitable arm of the Prudential Group, to assist flood victims in several northern provinces, including Chiang Rai, Nan, and Sukhothai. This collaborative effort is carried out through the Foundation for Older Persons’ Development (FOPDEV), in conjunction with networks of elderly organizations and communities, as well as relevant social and governmental partners. The donations, totaling 2,011,862 THB, have been contributed by both Prudence Foundation and Prudential Thailand’s employees. These funds are aimed at helping the elderly, disabled, and underprivileged individuals affected by the floods, alleviating their hardships and boosting their morale.
Mr. Bundit Jiamanukoonkit, CEO of Prudential Thailand, stated, “The sudden flooding has significantly impacted many areas in the north. Prudential Thailand adheres to our Prudential Purpose: ‘For very Life, For Every Future.’ We firmly believe that business cannot progress alone; our aim is to contribute to building a strong and sustainable society. Given the severity of the flooding in many northern areas, we have partnered with Prudence Foundation and FOPDEV to provide urgent assistance to the affected areas, with a special focus on the vulnerable elderly, disabled, and underprivileged individuals. During these challenging times, we extend our care and encouragement to all flood victims, as we remain committed to providing support in every possible way to help everyone overcome this crisis together.”
Emergency Assistance Measures by FOPDEV:
-
Establishing central kitchens to provide two meals a day (lunch and dinner) at evacuation centers. They are also distributing additional supplies and adult diapers to those in need.
-
Distributing survival kits and essential items to flood victims, including the elderly. These provisions are crucial for their sustenance during the crisis, benefiting 4,000 people.
-
Post-flood rehabilitation: After the water levels recede, many homes are left damaged by mud, especially in communities with many elderly residents who cannot return home due to mud-filled houses. FOPDEV collaborates with various agencies to clean and restore homes using heavy machinery and manpower to remove mud, ensuring the elderly can safely return to their homes.
-
Providing emergency assistance to distressed villagers, with a special focus on the elderly, to initially restore their quality of life amidst the challenges posed by the floods.
-
Building resilient networks for emergency assistance in affected areas and strengthening communities that frequently face disasters, preparing them to adapt and respond effectively to long-term climate change and disasters.
